The Cardinals secured their place in the title game with a 61–54 comeback win over Des Moines Christian. After trailing by double digits earlier in the game, Maquoketa rallied in the second half and delivered a strong fourth quarter to complete the comeback and advance to the state finals.

Des Moines Christian entered the semifinal with momentum after defeating Forest City 52–46 in the quarterfinals, led by a strong scoring performance from Reese DeVooght. However, Maquoketa’s late surge proved to be the difference as the Cardinals punched their ticket to the title game.
